Dorthe Berntsen is very grateful for the grant.

"I'm delighted about receiving this grant. It’ll make it possible to cultivate an entirely new field of research on the correlation between morality and memory in collaboration with some of the most talented researchers in the field. And I'm also very pleased that the Carlsberg Foundation chose to award such a big grant to a project within psychology.”

The eye of the needle
The ten Semper Ardens Advance grants have all been awarded following applications submitted by the researchers themselves. The Foundation received 104 applications, all of which were thoroughly assessed by the board of the Carlsberg Foundation prior to their decision on allocation the foundation's funding. The board interviewed 22 of the 104 applicants. However, for the first time in the history of the Carlsberg Foundation, applications were also assessed internationally prior to the board's assessment and decision. This was because research is becoming increasingly specialised, and it requires qualified assessment by other researchers who are familiar with the research area. Professor Dorthe Berntsen has therefore received the grant based on meticulous assessment.
